FAQ's

Do you treat Verrucas?

Yes we do. Treatment is once weekly, but at a reduced follow on rate after the first consultation.

Do I need a doctor’s referral to get an appointment?

No. Just give us a call and we'll fit you in.

Do you offer free NHS treatment?

Unfortunately not.

How long do you spend with each patient?

It varies from patient to patient, but we normally allow between 30 and and 40 minutes per patient.

What is the difference between a Foot Health Practitioner, a Podiatrist and a Chiropodist?

Registered Foot Health Practitioners are individuals that are qualified to carry out routine foot care treatments.  Our services include cutting and filing toenails and fingernails, corns and callus, preventing and treating fungal nail infections and carrying out general check-ups on feet.  Practitioners also provide foot care services to individuals with diabetes by assessing their feet for any changes in condition, ensuring that diabetic ulcers don’t develop and by making sure their toenails are correctly cut.

Podiatrists, in addition to the services above, specialise in the study, diagnosis and treatment of long term foot, ankle and lower leg conditions.  They aim to prevent and correct deformities of the feet and lower legs by using orthotics and are able to offer advice on the correct style of footwear for your feet.

Many individuals visit a Podiatrist if they are suffering from problems with ligaments, tendons and bones or if they are experiencing consistent pain within their feet or lower legs.  We have a very good local podiatrist whom we can refer patients to whenever necessary.

Are you qualified?

Yes, both Jane and Oliver are fully qualified, registered and insured.

Jane Elmer - S.A.C.Dip.FHP-Advanced, Registration no s48411

Oliver Elmer - S.A.C.Dip.FHP-Advanced, Registration no s323509

Do you do home visits or just clinic?

We do both to ensure that everyone can be seen.

Do you offer appointments outside working hours or at the weekend?

We can book appointments early morning, late evening or weekends. We find that some people just cannot get to us during normal working hours.

Can you do short notice appointments?

Sometimes but we cannot guarantee it! We sometimes have cancellation slots that can be taken, but it is extremely advisable to book each time we see you. If it's urgent, then we can make an appointment for you outside of normal hours. Most people work on a 6 weekly appointment cycle, but of course, everyone should do whatever suits them best.

Do you visit Care Homes?

Yes we do.

Do you Treat Children?

Yes we do, but the treatments are more limited.

I have tried phoning several times but cannot get through?

Apologies - it just means that we are extremely busy and in clinic.  Sometimes we work through until 20.00 in the evening.  Sometimes we have no signal.  We obviously silence our mobile phones when in clinic or with a patient.  Leave a message on the clinic answering machine and we will get back to you as soon as we can.  It can sometimes be the following day - but we guarantee that we will get back to you.
